General Safety Indoors

✅ Install safety gates at stairs, patios, or uneven split levels

✅ Use socket covers on all electrical outlets

✅ Anchor furniture and TVs to walls to prevent tipping

✅ Remove or pad sharp corners on tables and counters

✅ Keep all cleaning products, alcohol, medicines locked away or out of reach

✅ Use drawer and cupboard locks in the kitchen and bathroom

✅ Check that fans and AC units are securely mounted and cords are out of reach

✅ Place non-slip mats in bathrooms and showers

Tropical & Climate-Specific Hazards

Insect & Heat Protection

✅ Install mosquito screens on windows and doors

✅ Use child-safe insect repellents or mosquito nets for beds and strollers

✅ Ensure fans or AC are used in bedrooms to keep them cool and reduce bugs

✅ Keep children hydrated—have water bottles easily accessible

✅ Apply sunblock and hats for outdoor play, even in shaded areas

✅ Store standing water (plant trays, buckets) upside down to avoid mosquito breeding

Patio, Yard & Outdoor Areas

✅ Install locks or latches on doors leading to the patio or garden

✅ Fence off or securely cover pools, fish ponds, or water features

✅ Lock away garden tools, pesticides, and sharp objects

✅ Check outdoor furniture for sharp edges, rust, or loose parts

✅ Supervise play on tiles or concrete (very slippery when wet)

✅ Ensure plants in the yard are non-toxic if ingested (avoid oleander, crotons, etc.)

 

Living & Play Areas

✅ Choose age-appropriate toys and remove small items that can be choking hazards

✅ Store toys in low baskets or bins—no heavy lids

✅ Create a designated play space indoors or on the veranda with soft mats or cushions

✅ Keep cords (blinds, electronics) tied up and out of reach

✅ Keep a first-aid kit stocked and visible

✅ Teach older kids basic emergency contacts and fire safety
